Position Title:    

Electronics R&D Intern (Summer Placement)

Reports to:

Lead R&D Engineer or other manager as decided by the company

Positions Reporting to:

None

 

Job Purpose

 

To effectively build, test, repair equipment according to production schedule to meet the requirements of Navicom Dynamic clients and company established standards.  Also to work on engineering and R&D projects as assigned by the company.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical duties (each as requested by the company)

  • Assemble and build products
  • Testing of assembled products to the set company test procedure and ensuring the test report is completed timeously
  • Design of equipment to assist with product testing
  • Repair any assembled products that fail testing
  • Repair any products that have been returned for repair
  • Raise ECN documentation as and when required
  • Use knowledge and understanding of schematics and assembly drawings in order to complete jobs as per the production schedule.
  • Work on assigned R&D projects as allocated by the company.

 

Housekeeping/Health and Safety

  • Ensure  work area is kept clean and tidy and that all unattended equipment/tools is stored away in its appropriate place
  • Ensure the work area is kept free of any health and safety hazards
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in good order and any faults with equipment are brought to the attention of your manager timeously to avoid delay in completing work
  • Adherence to company health and safety standards at all times
  • Identification of hazards in work area and taking appropriate action to eliminate, isolate or minimise the hazards

 

Quality Control

  • Ensure you are clear on instructions prior to commencing a job to ensure there are no issues later on.
  • Check quality of job/test product prior to passing onto next department
  • Present work to next processing department in the correct manner
  • Carry out quality checks in accordance with Company procedures
  • Bring to the attention of the QA manager and the company any quality non-compliance issues to ensure issues are resolved and the risk of recurrence is minimised
  • Follow Company ISO QA procedures at all times

 

Relationships

  • At all times it is your responsibility to make yourself available to the sales reps/other team members to help out with technical detailing where & when required. 
  • In instances where there is a high level of contact with customers on technical jobs it is important the customer representative is kept well informed of events as ultimately they are directly responsible for the growth of this customer’s sales/on-going customer relationship.
  • Any anticipated delays in completing work on schedule or any technical problems that arise must be bought to the attention of your manager immediately so the customer can be informed and alternative solutions found.

 

General

  • Self-development of skills and knowledge to maintain required levels of expertise required for the position.

  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as required.  Including providing support in other work areas to assist with coverage for busy periods, absence etc

This job description is intended to outline the principal duties and responsibilities of this role.  However, this is no way limits the requirement to act at all times to support all of Navicom efforts.  As such the incumbent may be required to take on tasks out with the scope of this role. It is also not intended to limit the opportunities for Navicom staff to gain experience in other areas provided the needs of the principal duties are covered to the satisfaction of the Directors.
